Absolut Vodka Anthem, featuring New Order 'Ceremony'

VERY cool Absolut Vodka commercial that uses New Order 'Ceremony' as the background music. I'm guessing it's not really them, but I'm not sure.

It sounds a lot like the Joy Division tour rehearsal version of Ceremony from the Heart and Soul box set, mildly edited and with no vocals. The JD version is a bit looser and slightly lower in pitch. Not a perfect match, though, unless they edited the first few measures a tiny bit.

I saw this on Colbert the other night and was devastated. Is nothing sacred?!

A commenter on the YouTube thread said it was a cover by a band called Fall On Your Sword. I haven't been able to find their version, though.

Nothing is sacred anymore. nowadays for young and old artist alike, commercials are the only way to get your music heard sometimes. American Radio basically plays the same crap over and over and over.

I think it's a cover. Upon seeing the suggestion that it was by that band Fall On Your Sword, I went to their website (www.fallonyoursword.com) and their MySpace site (www.myspace.com/therinse), and although
the track wasn't on either of these sites, the style of their music alludes to a possibility. If their cover was cleaned up and done proper in a pro studio, I can see it being their cover.

The other reason I don't think it's either JD or NO is because the bass guitar in the AS spot is not nearly as chorused/flanged as Peter Hook would play it, and some of the guitar parts were changed from the original arpeggios to straight chords of a melody derived from the original.

Regardless, I actually like what little of this cover there was in the commercial. If there's a full song out there---whether by FOYS or not---I would like to have a copy!

...and no, nothing is sacred when it comes to advertising

It is funny how it has been almost 30 years....and I hear a song like Ceremony on a vodka commercial. We used to call up and request the song, but none of the DJ's had ever heard of the song let alone the group. Top 40 radio was pretty bad in the eighties. To me, the music sounds a lot like a New Order version, it may be from an early EP I just can't place it right now. I may have to break out the turntable.

verification: it is the new order 12" Ceremony (fac. 33) . It might be on one of those CD box sets, I can only speak for vinyl released.
To my knowledge the only JD recording is live one on Still.

It's not new order, not fast enough, its not joy division, quality is too good, and the guitar bass and drums do not sound like those used by either band. its obviously a cover, probably by fall on your sword because thats what im hearing more often then not. ur all gays

I think this is the 'Ceremony [Original 7" Single Version]', a remastered version is included in the collector's edition of Movement
