A's lose prospect to retirement, to be a priest
Oakland Athletics minor leaguer Grant Desme has decided to retire from baseball to pursue a career in priesthood, ESPN Insider's Keith Law has confirmed.
The 23-year-old, who hit 31 home runs last season and followed that by hitting .315/.413/.667 with a circuit-leading 11 home runs in the Arizona Fall League, was a top-ten prospect in Oakland's system, and the sudden decision took the club by surprise.
Desme was not likely to break camp with the A's this spring, as he'd yet to reach Double-A, but at his advanced age and experience as a college draftee, could have fast-tracked and ended the season with a September call-up.

Crazy right?
